A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

IS IT WELL WITH YOUR SOUL?

"Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul"  (3 John 1:2)

On Christmas Day following the worship service, I remained at church to be in prayer for the members of St. John’s. I did this to fulfill the promise I made to the families here at St John’s; that I would lift every name in prayer as my Christmas gift to you all. As I prayed, name by name, I was in tears – sensing the strong presence of God. How great our God is. The most requested prayer was for the salvation of family members; the second was for peace for the world. I prayed God’s blessings for everyone for the year 2011.

As I prayed for God’s blessing for you, I want you to know about God’s promise found in 3 John 1:2; it reads, “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul.”

This means, if you wish for everything to go well for you and that you have good health in 2012; make sure your spiritual condition is well. There are many ways to take care of our spiritual health – prayer, reading and meditating on the word of God, joining Bible studies, and faithful attendance at worship services.

Many Christians take their attendance to worship lightly. Some people “stay home” because they are too busy. Others will not go to worship because somewhere along the way their feelings were hurt. Some believe “the church is just not meeting my needs.” We try to find someone or something to blame to justify our excuse for not attending a worship service. However, if we are too busy for a worship service, aren’t we way too busy?

Are we too busy with things that God does not even ask us to do? But friends, attending worship faithfully has everything to do with God!

Prayer is another way to make our spiritual condition well as I mentioned above. Prayer helps us to have a trusting relationship with God by becoming completely dependent on Him. Sincere and humble prayer helps us to surrender our will to His will. Prayer helps us to not rely on our own understanding but to acknowledge Him in all aspects of our lives.

Our God is a good God, a great God, who is ready to bless us abundantly. But it’s up to us to receive or reject His blessings. Are you ready to receive them by putting God first in your life, thus taking care of your spiritual life? I pray that in 2012 all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul.

Many blessings to you and your family.

In Christ,
Pastor Christina Sung
