Missions Opportunity
The UMW and the Adult Christian Ed. Class are adopting families through the Bidwell Christmas Sharing Project. We will be giving them food for a Christmas dinner and toys for their children. We are also providing food to make Christmas dinners for the elderly. If any of you wish to help with this project, please see Helen Smith or Peg Buscher. Or if you wish, you can donate money to the Bidwell Christmas Sharing Project through St. John’s. New officers for 2012 will be installed. UMW is sponsoring three families this year for Christmas. All members will be asked to volunteer to help with shopping for these families. A cookie and candy exchange will be had by all.
UMW HAPPENINGS
• On Sunday December 11th, 2011, the UMW and the Adult Sunday School Class delivered food and presents to 4 families. The food items included all the fixings to prepare a full Christmas Dinner for each family. Various other items were also given. Items included a quilt, fleece blankets, miscellaneous household items, and for the family with children, a doll was given to the girl, and a Lego set was given to the boy. All the families were very grateful, and appreciative. Jesus’ love and warmth was felt by all.
• On Saturday January 7th the UMW will be hosting the Trinity Supper Club at Trinity UMC. Food will be prepared and taken to the church where it will be handed out to those in need. Any leftover food is then packaged up and given to anyone who would like to take them home, and any remaining beverages are donated to the Children’s Food Program there.
The UMW also collects items to be donated to various groups. See below…
• Tabs off of pop cans, soup cans, etc. and donating them to Women’s Prison in Mitchellville.
• Campbell’s Soup Labels for Bidwell Riverside.
• Postage Stamps for the Men’s Group at Staves UMC.
• Gently used children’s books for the Polk County Jail.
• Used, clear medicine containers to the Church Women United.
• Used hearing aid batteries to be disposed of properly.
If you are interested in participating in the UMW or have any of the above items you would like to donate, please let Marty King know
