Membership Goals
that God loves people and wants all of us to
experience abundant and eternal life. We are separated from God’s abundance
and God’s goodness because of our sin, but God sent Jesus, his Son, to die on
the cross for our sins and the sins of the whole world. that Jesus came to earth to demonstrate the love of
God by preaching and teaching the coming of God’s Kingdom, and healing the
sick and delivering all who were oppressed by the devil. that Jesus after he died, he was buried and rose
again on the third day. that
faith in Jesus’ sacrificial death guarantees our forgiveness and gives us
eternal life. that Jesus Christ is coming again to take all who
believe on him to heaven. that the
Bible is the true and trustworthy Word of God that instructs and guides us in
faith and godly living. in the baptism
of infants and children of Christian parents and in the baptism of believing
adults who have never been baptized. “Serving
from the Heart” membership classes are held periodically to initiate,
instruct, and orient new members about the beliefs and ministry opportunities
available at St. John’s.
We love our guests and want everyone who visits to prayerfully consider
becoming a member of St. John’s. Membership
is open to anyone who has a desire to belong to a loving community of people who
are going through life focused on Jesus Christ. The Membership Committee welcomes our new members with a luncheon
and a special gift.
Our Expectations for members is for you:
 | To attend worship every week unless you are sick or out of town. |
 | To pursue at least one means of growing in your faith in addition
to the weekly worship service. |
 | To serve in one area in the church at least once every year. |
 | To grow toward the tithe, giving in proportion to your income |
Our Commitment to our members:
is to support and encourage your growth as a member by providing opportunities
for you to:
 | Grow in grace, knowledge and understanding of God through the Word, prayer,
fellowship and worship. |
 | Sharpen your leadership skills through classes, workshops
and hands-on experience. |
 | Serve God in a ministry where you are able to use your spiritual gifts
to make significant contributions to the mission and vision of the church. |
Covenant - These folks have made a covenant with this body of Christ
to consistently offer their prayers, presence, gifts, and service.
- New Members Commit...
- Commit to attend new membership classes to learn of the Methodist
tradition
-
- New Members Get Involved...
- Strongly urged to participate in a minimum of one of the small
groups available for spiritual growth and nurture.
-
- New Members are encouraged to be obedient to 1 Peter 4:10:
"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to server
others" and take "Serving from the Heart".
- Spiritual gifts are special abilities given to every Christian, by
the grace of God, through the Holy Spirit, to be used to serve and
strengthen one another and to glorify God. No two persons are
exactly alike. We have different abilities, dreams, and
preferences. God has created us with a specific purpose in mind,
giving each of us a unique S.T.R.I.D.E. on our faith journey --
Spiritual gifts, Talents, Resources, Individual styles, Dreams, and
Experiences. Persons taking this course will understand and
gravitate to their particular gifts and talents for fulfilling
service.
